In a deliciously innovative move, Maggi has unveiled a wheat flour-based edible fork as part of their ‘Desh ke liye 2 minute’ initiative, launched in 2020. This program, dedicated to making significant environmental strides through small yet impactful actions, aims to replace single-use plastics with sustainable alternatives. Teaming up with the Indian start-up Trishula and Nestle R&D India, Maggi’s edible fork enhances the experience of enjoying their Cuppa Noodles, blending taste with sustainability.
Earlier in 2023, Maggi introduced foldable, biodegradable forks in India, working alongside Nestle’s Institute of Packaging Sciences in Switzerland, Kaneka India, and Nestle India R&D. This effort is set to slash plastic usage by about 35 MT annually with these compostable forks.
Rajat Jain, Director of Foods at Nestle India, enthusiastically shared, “At Nestle, we are constantly exploring innovative ways to ensure a brighter future for both our consumers and the environment. The launch of edible forks in our Cuppa Noodles marks a significant leap in our mission to drive consumer-focused innovations while being eco-friendly. This unique two-piece fork design showcases our cutting-edge technology and global R&D prowess. We believe this will pave the way for more sustainable choices.”
Jagdeep Marahar, head of the Nestle R&D Centre India, added, “Our global packaging expertise, combined with local insights, allows us to explore and test novel plastic reduction methods. Our dedicated teams are tirelessly working to create sustainable alternatives that resonate with local consumers, leveraging advanced packaging materials and technologies.”
For now, these edible forks will be available for a limited time. Starting May 24, major cities will see the launch of Maggi Masala Cuppa Noodles with the edible fork, priced at Rs 50 for a 79.5 g pack. Grab yours and join the movement towards a tastier and greener future!
