Imagine you’re part of a big meeting. The room is filled with important people from the world of advertising and media. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), a very important part of our government, has something big to say. They insist that all ads must be self-declared by June 18. This means that every ad that you see on TV or the internet has to have a special certificate before it can be shown to the public.
This important meeting was led by the MIB secretary, Sanjay Jaju. Many big names in the media world were there. Sam Balsara, the chairman of Madison World, was there representing media agencies. Sidharth Jain, the secretary of the Indian Broadcasting and Digital Foundation, was also present. Manisha Kapoor from the Advertising Standards Council of India and Satya Raghavan from Google India were among the others who attended.
The people at the meeting were hoping for some solutions from the MIB. They wanted to make sure they could follow the Supreme Court’s order and also address their own concerns about how to implement it. But the MIB had a clear message for them. Any delay in implementing the order could result in contempt of the Supreme Court’s order from May 7.
A media executive who was at the meeting shared some inside information with The Economic Times. They said that the industry’s suggestions and the legal opinion provided by the government’s law officers could be included in the affidavit that the ministry would file before the Supreme Court.
On May 7, the Supreme Court made a big announcement. They said that all advertisers and advertising agencies must submit a ‘Self-Declaration Certificate’ before publishing or broadcasting any advertisement. This means that every ad you see has to have this special certificate. It’s a way to make sure that all ads are following the rules.
This new rule from the MIB is a big deal. It means that all the ads we see will have to follow certain rules. This is a good thing because it means that the ads will be more honest and trustworthy. So the next time you see an ad, remember that it has a special certificate that makes sure it’s following all the rules!
